Cartwright & Butler Red Onion Chutney is made with red onions which are milder and sweeter than their white cousins. The red onions are slowly cooked down with black treacle, balsamic vinegar and a blend of spices into a rich marmalade-style chutney. It works particularly well with a sharp cheddar or creamy goats’ cheese. A dollop stirred in your beef gravy will be a revelation! Presented in their signature clip-lid jar, that is eminently practical as a re-useable airtight storage jar.
about the producer
It all started around 1905 with two sisters in the front room of a terraced house in Yorkshire. When Jennie and Kathrine Adam’s father died leaving them with no income, they started baking and selling their cakes to make ends meet. Their little cottage industry did so well, they soon outgrew their kitchen and they moved to their own bakery, bringing sister Maria into the family business. Their reputation grew and soon they joined forces with the Arnett family, who owned a chain of bakeries, and began to build their business, with a shared vision to be the best bakers in the North. Today the business is run by a new generation of Arnetts, Terry and Tony Arnett, direct descendants of the original founders. Cartwright & Butler is built on a passion for food that puts a smile on your face.
