Piment d’Espelette is produced with the Espelette pepper – a prized chilli pepper variety that is cultivated in the French commune of Espelette, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, traditionally the northern territory of the Basque people. Sought after for its warming, sweet and fruity flavour and mild heat, it is a common ingredient in Basque cuisine. It’s also very popular in Spain. We love it with meat, fish, rice and more, but you can also present it at the table as a unique seasoning to be sprinkled on food.
This product has AOC (appellation d’origine contrôlée) status in France certifying that it is genuinely produced only in the region specified and to the cultivation, quality and production standards required for the certification.
